Now, Pak selector says 'spot-fixing' players 'innocent till proven guilty'

Islamabad, Sep 3(ANI): Pakistan selector Mohammad Ilyas insists that the PCB’s decision to drop captain Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif does not prove that they are guilty of the charges leveled against them.

“Pulling out is not an admission of guilt, it’s a sensible move which allows their teammates to get on and play cricket whilst this mess is sorted out,” Cricistan.com quoted Ilyas, as saying.

“These allegations are yet to be proven and until they are all three players will be treated as innocent,” he added.

On the matter of replacements for the trio, Ilyas said that no replacements would be brought in for the two Twenty20 matches against England.

Confirming his remarks, Pakistan’s assistant manager, Shafqat Rana, said: “We won’t be bringing in any replacements for Butt, Asif and Aamer till the ODI series.”

“The teams for both T20’s to be played in Cardiff will be picked from the existing squad,” he added.

Pakistan is scheduled to play the first Twenty20 match in Cardiff on Sunday. (ANI)
