Pak's FIA to probe 'match-fixing' allegations
Islamabad, Aug 31(ANI): A two-member team of Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) will be heading to England in the next couple of days to probe allegations of ‘spot-fixing’ against its country’s cricketers.
The Pakistan Interior Ministry said that the agency’s two top officials -Inam Ghani and Azad Khan - would be in London to gather information on the issue.
The team has been appointed on the direction of Interior Minister Rehman Malik.
“This will be an initial inquiry to find out the facts and determine the nature of allegations and real truth,” The Dawn quoted an Interior Ministry statement, as revealing.
“It will interact with London police and get the details,” it added.
Pakistan fast bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir have been accused by a British tabloid of being paid to deliberately bowl ‘no-balls’ during fourth test against England at Lord’s.
Scotland Yard police is investigating claims that reporters from News of The World had paid 150,000 pounds to London-based Mazhar Majeed in return for exact details.
Skipper Salman Butt, Amir, Asif and wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal have all given statements to the police in this regard.
Pakistan is scheduled to face England in two Twenty20 games and a five-match ODI Series over the next three weeks. (ANI)
