India blocks use of umpire review system for upcoming Australia series

Sydney, Aug 30 (ANI): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has blocked the use of the Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS) for the India-Australia series to be played in October.

This has, however, come as a surprise for Cricket Australia, who had been told the matter would be taken up when officials made a pre-tour inspection.

"There won''t be any UDRS in the series. We have already written to the International Cricket Council," said BCCI Chief Administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty.

The ICC has come up with a ruling, which allows the cricket playing nations to choose whether they wish to use it on a series-by-series basis.

This has led to considerable confusion among players and umpires, who may operate under one system for a series before having to switch back to the other, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Australia play two Tests and three ODIs on their India tour in October.

Earlier last month, Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni had said the DRS is still not a hundred per cent correct system.

"We have seen that, in spite of having the DRS, not everything goes correct. Most of the teams have played a series under the DRS, so it is important now to come up with a foolproof plan," said Dhoni. (ANI)
