Pak manager wants betting scam-hit England tour to continue

London, Aug 30(ANI): Pakistan Team manager Yawar Saeed insists that the forthcoming Twenty20 and one-day internationals against England should go ahead despite the alleged match-fixing scandal.

The Pakistan team is in the midst of a betting scam, where fast bowlers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif are alleged to have bowled pre-arranged no-balls in the Lord’s Test, which England won by an innings and 225 runs on Sunday.

“Obviously, we are not delighted. We are sad and there were very sober feelings in the dressing room,” The Daily Times quoted Saeed, as saying.

“Allegations are only one thing. They are all serious, whether they are small or big. Let us see what happens,” he added.

The teams are set to play two Twenty20 and five one-day internationals.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has requested the British police to give them access to the investigation.

“The PCB has requested the British Foreign Office to allow access for the Pakistan High Commission and the PCB to the ongoing investigation after the arrest of the British businessman of Asian origin for conspiracy to defraud bookmakers,” a PCB statement said.

A British tabloid claims that it secretly filmed its undercover reporters in discussion with London-based businessman Mazhar Majeed, who appears to accept 150,000 pounds to make sure no-balls were bowled at certain times during the match.  (ANI)
