Pak cricketers questioned over Lord's Test match-fixing scandal

London, Aug 29(ANI): Pakistan team manager Yawar Saeed has confirmed that Scotland Yard police officials have questioned him and several players in connection with match-fixing allegations over the ongoing Lord’s Test against England.

Yawar said police officials were in the team hotel, and recording statements from captain Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Aamir and Kamran Akmal.

“They have also spoken to me, and I have tried to answer their queries. We will cooperate all the way with them in these investigations,” The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Yawar, as saying.

He informed that police had told him they had arrested one man in connection with the allegations, but denied reports that officers had confiscated mobile phones and laptops or found money stashed in players’ rooms.

“That is not correct, but we are also in touch with our high commission in London and cooperating with the police,” Yawar added.

In the most sensational sporting scandal ever, a British tabloid has claimed that Pakistan fast bowlers Amir and Asif had delivered three no-balls to order.

According to The News of the World, London-based Mazhar Majeed is the alleged man behind the 150,000-pound betting scam.

The tabloid claims that they have footage of Majeed accepting money, and in return, he detailed what would happen - and when - on the field of play next day.

It alleges that Majeed had identified Butt as the ringleader of the corrupt cricketers, and also named wicket keeper Akmal. (ANI)
