England-Pak Lord's Test to continue despite match-fixing scandal
London, Aug 29(ANI): The International Cricket Council, the England and Wales Cricket Board and the Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed that the fourth Test between England and Pakistan would resume today as planned. The Test match being played at the Lord’s is in the midst of a controversy following the arrest by British police of a man on match-fixing allegations connected to the match. A British tabloid has alleged that seven members of the Pakistan team, including captain Salman Butt, were involved in a 150,000-pound betting scam with London-based Mazhar Majeed. In a joint statement, they said that the Test would continue as scheduled, adding that no “players nor team officials have been arrested in relation to this incident”. The statement added all three bodies were assisting the police with their inquiries, but as the matter was under investigation they would not be making any further comment, The News of The World reports. On the field, Pakistan collapsed spectacularly yet again in the series as England closed in on an innings victory. The tourists were 4-41 in their second innings when rain forced an early close to the third day’s play. Pakistan was forced to follow-on after being skittled for just 74 in their reply to England’s first innings 446. (ANI)
