England cricketers fear Lord's heroics will be declared null and void
London, Aug.29 (ANI): England’s cricketers fear their batting heroics at Lord's will be stripped from the record books following the latest match-fixing scandal. Inspired by Stuart Broad, England completely dominated play on day three of the Fourth Test, unaware that their Pakistani opponents are under investigation for illegally taking money from bookmakers. Pakistan bowlers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif stand accused of receiving tens of thousands of pounds for deliberately bowling 'no balls' on day two. According to News of The World, if the allegations are proved, world cricket chiefs must decide whether records from the current Test, and the series as a whole, should stand. It would prove a devastating blow to the England team, who have produced a string of superb individual displays during the four-match series. All-rounder Broad smashed a Test-best 169 on Saturday while Jonathan Trott finished with 184. Their 332 run partnership is a world-record eighth wicket stand. Broad dedicated his maiden Test ton to his dead stepmother, but the innings could now be erased from history as a result of the latest shocking revelations. England's bowlers ripped through the Pakistan batting line-up after Broad and Trott had set the platform for a whopping 446 first innings total. The tourists were then skittled for just 74 in their first innings before Strauss enforced the follow on and Pakistan slumped to 41 for four before bad light stopped play. Graeme Swann grabbed four for 12 from eight overs while young Middlesex fast bowler Steve Finn took three for 38. Off spinner Swann has now taken 18 wickets at 11.83 in the series while Jimmy Anderson has 22 scalps at under 14. Following tame collapses at Trent Bridge and Edgbaston, Pakistan have now recorded their three lowest totals in history during the course of this series. Trott tops the batting charts with 404 runs at 67 and wicketkeeper Matt Prior has significantly improved his stats with 234 runs at 58.5. England will wrap up the series 3-1 this morning, but the result and the players' records could stand for nothing if a decision is taken to delete the tarnished series from the records. (ANI)
