Butt, Akmal, among 7 Pak players in 150,000-pound match-fixing scandal

Butt, Akmal, among 7 Pak players in 150,000-pound match-fixing scandal

London, Aug 29(ANI): A multi-million pound cricket match-fixing ring, which allegedly rigged the ongoing Lord’s Test between England and Pakistan, has reportedly been smashed.

In the most sensational sporting scandal ever, it is claimed that Pakistan fast bowlers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif had delivered three no-balls to order.

According to The News of the World, London-based Mazhar Majeed is the alleged man behind the 150,000-pound betting scam.

The tabloid claims that they have footage of Majeed accepting money, and in return, he detailed what would happen - and when - on the field of play next day.

“I’m going to give you three no-balls to prove to you firstly that this is what’s happening. They’ve all been organised, okay?” The News of The World quoted Majeed, as saying.

“This is exactly what’s going to happen, you’re going to see these three things happen. I’m telling you, if you play this right you''re going to make a lot of money, believe me!” he added.

The tabloid claims that Majeed had identified Pakistan captain Salman Butt as the ringleader.

He also named wicket keeper Kamran Akmal, and a total of seven corrupt cricketers.

Meanwhile, following the revelation, Scotland Yard officers visited Lord’s and the Pakistan players’ London hotel.

Police are set to speak to the players today.

“Following information from the News of the World we have today arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud bookmakers,” a Scotland Yard spokesman said. (ANI)
