IPL helped in creating harmony among international cricketers: Jayawardene

Dambulla (Sri Lanka). Aug.28 (ANI): Sri Lankan vice-captain Mahela Jayawardene believes that the Indian Premier League (IPL) has given an opportunity to international cricketers to get to know each other better creating harmony among them.

“It (IPL) has opened doors for harmony among the players. In the IPL, you get to know other foreign players better. We have created better relations as a result of that,” Jayawardene said.

The stylish right-hand batsman said T20 leagues being played across the world have a lot of potential, which would add to the popularity of the slam bang version of the game.

“We have seen that in the IPL, we have seen that in the English counties, we have seen that in the Big Bash, that’s the way forward for Twenty20 cricket,” Jayawardene said.

Referring to the upcoming T20 Champions League, in which he would be representing his country’s T20 champion team-Wayamba, Jayawardene said the tournament would grow in stature with time.

“People now understand what the concept is all about, we need to give it some more time and it will improve,” The Dawn quoted Jayawardene, as saying. (ANI)
